Spend some time and get to understand each section, the format of the inventory is as important as the quality of users behind the medium. YouTube traffic is cheaper - but it also means a loss in quality. Search traffic is good - but requires planning ahead of time and time into compiling an operating framework.

Start with answering the questions of “What action do we want our users to take?” and “Where do these users exist?”.

End it with “How do I present my message to them?”

Step 3: Craft Your Message

Don’t waste time not-creating a creative by debating it’s effectiveness. Let the numbers tell you what you need to know. Keeping an eye on CTR, Conv. Rate, CPC’s, and market shares over time is the best method to understanding your creatives impact.

Step 4: Double Check Campaign Settings

Depending on the intent, default Google Ads settings are not set in your favor. Rule of thumb dictates that when inventory is at a high - adjust bids to manual CPC’s.

Location settings on default are set to include users who are looking at the location you wish to target. Example: Dennis is reading a tour guide website about Paris - if Google has inventory there - it can target Dennis due to the contextual value of Paris. Dennis is lives in Canada. Your campaign is targeting Paris - you are effectively targeting Dennis in Canada.

Adjust this setting to ‘People in or regularly in your targeted/excluded location’.

For more settings that can be adjusted - make sure to download the Google Ads Editor for offline and power user settings.

Step 5: Submit Payment and Launch

Let your campaign simmer for a week at whatever budget you have allocated. Double check your tracking, audiences and any other supporting tech is in order. Any optimizations to the account should be taken when there is statistical significance to do so.
